A city council that prides itself on its budgeting prowess, through relentless taxation of its residential citizens every year. Conflict of interest is rampant in city hall, just look at the million dollar fire truck purchased through the actions of having a former fire chief sitting in the chambers (money well spent considering there are only two buildings in the whole city that require a ladder truck of that size). Our blissfully ignorant taxpayer funded council makes sure they receive consistent raises while empty storefronts and overpriced housing/rentals take hold around them, leaving residents to fight just to afford food and a place to lay their head. Red tape is abound for any individuals (aside from large corporations of course!) looking to start a simple business in this town. Thinking of moving here soon? Get ready to add rapidly rising Hydro / ICBC rates to your list of monthly payments, along with forking over your hard earned money to pay for a massive ocean front "mall" that a population of 30,000 people doesn't even need. Empty storefronts all over the place, but a mall seems like a great idea! All in all, if you enjoy over-taxation and watching an old / outdated city council grab whatever they can to make sure their own are taken care of, this is the town for you!Rest in Peace Campbell River, you had such potential.
