Painters lodge has a long standing reputation of being beautiful which it is, having grown up in Campbell River it's always been a talked about resort. We recently went for a wedding there and I must say although the wedding was amazing because of the people in it, the resort was very much lacking in service and accommodating us as a group. The first screw up was getting the reservation dates wrong for the rooms of most of the guests, not something a bride and groom want to deal with a week before the wedding. They were off by a day and had everyone checking out the day of the wedding, they blamed it on a computer glitch and fixed it but as a result instead of being in the same building we were all over the resort. Second on the website check in is set at 3pm so we scheduled the wedding rehearsal for 4pm, when we arrived they wouldn't allow check in until 4pm causing us to change the time of rehearsal. For the rehearsal dinner they told us they could not reserve a table for 23 people in their restaurant but they could seat us 4 at a time as tables came up. This being unacceptable we ordered pizza in the bridal suite. We called and asked if we could use some plates and they refused causing us to eat off of cut up boxes. Next the bride and groom wanted to reserve the shuttle ride to April point (which used to be free with previous management as it should be with the price of the rooms, and now has a cost of $5 each) to go over to take pictures and management refused that as well saying they couldn't reserve the shuttle. Our toilet in our room continuously clogged despite us using it like normal people and when I called the deck in the morning they said they didn't know when maintenance started and suggested we use the washroom in the fitness center or lobby. The second morning it was clogged we didn't even bother calling. When I complained to the desk about this problem they just said "yeah sorry that's terrible" but didn't offer any kind of compensation at all. I gave the resort a 2 because it is beautiful and the rooms (other than the toilet) were clean and functioning. The staff and the way it was run however were very very disappointing. Hopefully the next time it changes management Painters Lodge can be brought back up to what you would expect from such a beautiful resort.
After a negative experience at the Dolphins Resort, we headed over to Painters Lodge for the buffet for our anniversary dinner. Even though it was extremely busy, they did a great job at accommodating us. Thanks Jenn for your cheerful, friendly, great service. Painters is now our new go-to for company from out of town or from overseas - highly recommend.
Painters Lodge is a great place to stay in Campbell River. We stayed in one of the cabins. It was very nice and well furnished. The staff was friendly and answered all my questions. We went fishing for two days and had a blast, the guide was knowledgeable and personable. I am definitely coming back again in the future.
A beautiful property with some lovely amenities. The reception and check in was smooth... There is a guest services desk to help with any inquiries. We settled into our room - I had chosen the ocean view choice... It was very nice. The heated pool and hot tub facility was excellent. We ate at the pub buffet - many pub favourites as well as salad bar and dessert table for $24 per person - the food was decent for a pub buffet. The breakfast buffet which was included in our room rate was excellent - it far exceeded my expectations, although dining room service was a little weak. My only real complaint is that the bed was very firm and the pillows were huge and also firm - it just made for a difficult time getting comfortable. A truly lovely property.
We stayed here for 2 nights and it was the perfect escape from Vancouver. The lodge was spacious and it has a rustic feel to it. The restaurant overlooking Campbell river has an awesome view that can't be beat! We had the buffet breakfast packaged with our stay and it was really good! We didn't partake in any of the activities that they offered but we did watch other people do the fishing trip and coming back with big fishes which looked like a lot of fun. It also has a nice pool with 2 tubs, a tennis court, and a gym. Didn't see any trails around the river but it would have been nice if there was one.
